The role of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in climate change mitigation and adaptation

Believing in the serious negative effects of climate change on humanity, the United Nations General Assembly in 1988 discussed the issue of climate change and issued its decision to form the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). and this team was formed in cooperation with the Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)to carry out scientific research and evaluate information related to climate change from the scientific, technical, economic and social aspects. and this team concluded in 1990 that there are technically feasible and cost-effective measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through national measures and Regional meetings and agreements followed, with the aim of limiting the phenomenon of climate change. The Intergovernmental Authority on Climate Change has proposed a wide range of options for adaptation to climate change, as it developed an appropriate plan to adapt to the catastrophic effects of climate change on all sectors of social and economic life. politics as follows: The water sector: The scope of rainwater harvesting must be expanded and new technologies used to conserve, store and reuse water and raise the efficiency of irrigation systems using modern irrigation methods instead of surface irrigation. Governments must here provide support through grants or loans to farmers to switch to modern irrigation. And developing and raising the efficiency of water networks and systems. The agricultural sector: ensuring the adjustment of planting dates and the diversity of crops and changing their locations every season and protecting the soil from erosion and desertification by planting trees. Amenable to agriculture, providing technical and logistical support to farmers, financial support, incentives and tax reduction. Health sector: health action plans must be implemented during high heat conditions, monitoring and control of climate-related diseases, sterilization of water to make it more healthy, sewage treatment and recycling, and preparing medical teams ready to treat diseases caused by climate change. and governments here must take Taking into account climate changes and the diseases they cause, and strengthening health services. Transport sector: It is necessary to work on setting standards for the design and planning of roads, railways and basic infrastructure such as sewage to be compatible with reducing the catastrophic effects of climate change and the use of bicycles for transportation instead of traditional means of transportation that depend on fuel in its work. Governments must here Supporting the transportation industry that depends on alternative energies such as solar energy and others. Energy sector: The use of alternative renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and tidal energy must be used on a large scale instead of the sources that emit greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Governments must here support the transition to renewable energy from By granting long-term, low-interest, low-tax loans to residents, extending underground power transmission and distribution facilities, and taking into account climate change in design criteria related to energy production.
